Under the leadership of Principal Matthew Gaven, the Jackson Avenue School is truly a shining star elementary school in the Mineola School District. Both of my children attended Jackson Avenue and have benefited tremendously from their educational experience there. The teachers are highly dedicated and hard working. The principal and his staff are very accessible and helpful to each and every family whose child(ren) attends the school. The staff works hard to help each student to reach his/her highest potential. Each month we received a newsletter from the teachers in our child's grade telling us what they would cover in each subject and what to expect in the upcoming weeks. We would be alerted to ways in which we could assist and support our child. It has an active PTA, Site-Based Management Team and Student Council offering wonderful family and student events and an over the top Drama Program!

MINEOLA MIDDLE SCHOOL
200 EMORY RD [Details] |

Mineola Middle School is joyful and child-centered. The Principal and Assistant Principal seem to know each of 640 kids by name. Walking through the halls, I am always amazed at how friendly and polite these children are. Attending a MMS poetry reading in the local library, and watching the kids almost knock down their teachers with affection, I thought I was visiting a puppy farm. MMS is academically challenging, and the teachers will stay in the classroom to provide 'lunch lab' so students can receive extra help. The Mineola District's Music Program is absolutely second to none on Long Island. Mineola Middle School's PTA recently received a 2007 National Award of Excellence. We have found this to be a vibrant community with everything one would expect from a small town: homecoming parades, rich traditions, and several generations of alumni. What a nice District in which to live and raise a family!

I graduated from Chaminade in the 1970's. The school was very rigorous academically and at first I did not like all the hard work I had to do to get good grades.I learned to like the hard work. I became fond of the place because the teachers were very supportive and I turned into a top student. I got into several IVY League colleges and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Yale. From there I graduated near the top of my medical school class. Chaminade taught me how to study and it paid off.
